Trip to Germany September 2008
We invite you to enjoy the pictures from Karen's and my trip to Germany. We initially arrived at Düsseldorf Airport and spent a few days in Cologne. We took a river cruise from Cologne to Bonn which gave a good view of Germany's industries. We visited the glass cathedral in Cologne which was quite awesome. We took several train rides and learn how complicated the travel system is in Germany but yet totally efficient. We did a second river cruise on the Rhine River from Koblenz to St. Goar where we saw the magnificent castles and ruins on the hill tops. The forests were green and beginning to change colors before the trees loose their leaves. The autobahn in the pouring rain is a scary experience, LOL. My favorite restaurant in Germany was an Italian restaurant owned and operated by the Lebanese. We visited in East Germany and saw differences in road conditions, architecture, graffiti and dialects.
We were invited to visit at the Olstern's and the Miros's homes and we thank them for their hospitality. I saw pedigrees going back 8 generations on Biewers. I saw personal communications between Mr. and Mrs. Biewer and the Miros family.
We loved the bakeries, open-air markets, and beautiful flower shops. Yes, Karen drove on the autobahn. We reaffirmed that I cannot read a roadmap no matter what language it is written in, LOL.
We visited breeders who were happy to talk to us about the future of the Biewers as a separate breed, and others who were unhappy with the direction the Americans are taking. All in all, it was an experience and an education for us.
Again thanks to all for the hospitality and a special thanks to Conny, Angelo, and Miss Mickey for being our tour guide and translator. It sure was nice to have doggie kisses when we were so far from home.
